Brief Historical Chronology V
This poster highlights the Puerto Rican civil rights movement in education and the broad range of community organizations established during the civil rights movement. In education, the time line includes: bilingual education and linguistic rights; the student movement; the advent of Puerto Rican studies; and, the establishment of Centro, Hostos and Boricua Colleges. Other community organizations founded in this period include The Puerto Rican Day Parade, Aspira, El Museo del Barrio, the Julia de Burgos Cultural Center, Paseo Boricua in Chicago, and the Puerto Rican Legal and Education Defense Fund (now LatinoJustice/PRLDEF) among others.
