Jesús Papoleto Meléndez. His book Hey Yo! Yo Soy! is a collection of poems about growing up Puerto Rican in El Barrio. The poems in the book chronicle the evolution of his relationship with his community and his political and social awakening as a poet, writer and activist. Papoleto is considered one of the founders of the Nuyorican Movement. He and Urayoán Noel, an assistant professor of English at the University at Albany, SUNY, a poet, performer and translator, will also discuss the process of translating of Nuyorican literary works from English to Spanish and how to linguistically maintain the integrity of the original work and make it readable to a global Spanish-speaking market.
