This research brief reviews housing characteristics among the Puerto Rican population in the United States, with comparative data from before and after the 2007 economic recession. We find that the Puerto Rican population has poorer homeownership rates and living conditions than the non-Hispanic white and the non-Hispanic black populations, but better living conditions than the general Hispanic population. In addition, the Puerto Rican population has experienced a decline in homeownership rates since the Great Recession.
